Urologic Infections |
Urinary infections can arise from anywhere along the course of the urinary system from the kidneys to the urethra. However, the age, gender and the presence of any underlying medical conditions such as diabetes and renal failure may predispose the patient to certain types of urinary infections. The goal is to identify the location of the source of infection and eliminate the underlying cause.
Possible causes of infections:
Retention of Urine
Urinary Stones
Urinary Obstruction
Malignancy
Sexual Transmission
Systemic infections
Treatment involves culturing of the urine and blood in order to determine the proper antibiotic. Recurrent infections may require further evaluation.
